Works better than trauma shears and are versatile enough to be carried by any responder. Bought several for my team over the holidays and they’ve worked great! This rescue cutter is an incredible little tool that can rip and tear almost anything (that fits under the hook) apart in an instant. The only product that you can really compare this to is the smaller Benchmade 5 hook, both of which are at the top of all strap and cloth cutters. Benchmade 7hook: 4.3 Inches long, 1.6 oz hook and 3.2 oz with nylon sheath. Benchmade 5hook: 2.9 Inches long, 1.2 oz hook and 1.8 oz with nylon sheath.Pros:Ultra sharpRetains edge wellExtra size makes it more comfortable to use than the Benchmade 5High quality nylon sheathSheath makes for fast deploymentJimping bites well into the fingers440 Stainless steel is very resistant to corrosionCheaper than the Benchmade 5 (When I ordered mine it was 5 dollars cheaper with free shipping)Vinyl grip makes the Benchmade 7 much more comfortable than the 5Tears through almost anything like butterCons:Not as portable as the Benchmade 5Lacks the oxygen wrench and bottle opener of the Benchmade 5Cannot sharpen with a standard flat whetstoneMy only real problem with the Benchmade 7hook was I needed to go out and buy a ceramic sharpening rod because I did not own one previously, although I've yet to need to sharpen it because it holds an edge so well. As I said at the beginning of the review, there is really no other tool you can fairly compare it to besides other Benchmade rescue hooks because all other rescue cutters and hooks lack the quality and the functionality of the Benchmade tools.I am an ER doc and would not consider going to work with out this now. I have had it about a year and would not trade it. I can disrobe someone in about 60 sec flat with this. It will cut threw anything cloth. leater, laces, plastic and to the disdane of the paramedics sometime the spider straps holding a patient to the back board. I recently deployed to Iraq and had someone decide they needed it worse then I did. I used the army issue Gerber version and it was worthless. It would not cut and did not hold an edge. I purchesed another benchmade as soon as I returned to the states. I have begun giving this as a gift to other docs and it is always a welcome addition to someones belt. I hate using trama scissors they alwyas get lost and dull quickly. I have never had a problem with this being able to cut what ever I needed, and the belt sheath is perfect for keeping it close and aviable. I did not like the smaller version for my needs this has a great feel and allows me to get a full grasp on the handle when cutting threw clothes or straps. Definatly a 5 star recomindationI'm a paramedic on a service that uses tibial IO as our primary vascular access on pretty much any pulseless non-breather. We also see a fair amount of trauma, so we tend to cut a lot of pants legs and clothes. I've been using the seven hook for a few years now. It's blindingly fast compared to standard trauma shears, and I haven't found anything, including leather boots, that it won't cut through easily. The included sheath rides well on a uniform belt, and the hook is out of the way until needed, but very fast to deploy. The only down side is cost - I've 'lost' two to date, and just bought my third. At ~30 bucks a pop, they suck to lose, especially when trauma shears are dirt cheap. After falling back on shears for the past couple months though, I just shelled out for another hook.Oh, and another cautionary word - they slice through ECG leads every bit as easily as clothes.I bought this as part of my EDC gear. Holy moly this thing is sharp. It slices through everything like a hot knife through butter. It's well built, comfortable to hold and use, and razor sharp. The size works perfectly for EDC since it's compact design makes it smaller than rescue shears.Best cuter everThis was recommended to me by one of my command physicians who spends time in Iraq in the battlefields. I work as both a part time medic in the street as well as in a very busy emergency department where we need to cut clothing away. I bought 2 of these for each job. There isn't a shift that goes by that I don't use it. It's far better and faster than your average trauma shears. By the time my partner or one of the other nurses gets their trauma shears open, I'm already through material and onto whatever I need to do next. I haven't had the blade go bad yet, but my local hardware store guy believes he can sharpen it. I definately recommend this thing. It cuts through thich canvas, leather, without any problems. If I were to lose them, I would replace them in a heartbeat..It came with a plastic sheath and not the cloth Molle sheath in the picturesちょっとしたナイロン糸のほつれから、8.5mm径補助ロープまできれいにスッパリ切れました(スペックでは11mm径まで切れます)。
